2019.09.17 Council Meeting
The meeting was held as a video conference on Tuesday, September 17, 10:00AM PDT, 11:00AM MDT.
Council members present:
Nirtan Carol Ann Sokoloff, Kuan Yin Cindy Pujos-Michel, Fazalunissa Carole Harmon, Azima Martha Toy, Qahira Francesca Becker, Akbar Lody Kieken, Jelaluddin Gary Sill and David Murray.
Members present:
No one from the general membership attended.
Call To Order
David called the meeting to order at 10:24 AM PDT, 11:24 AM MST.
Old Business
No old business was discussed.
New Business
Zoomkeeper
David will get a subscription account for zoom right away. Board members can speak one-on-one with their free accounts.
Online Database
The new Sufi Circle Canada Members database is up and running. Six collaborators can see this database when signed in. They are Nirtan, David, Kuan Yin, Akbar, Fazalunissa and Jelaluddin. Azima and Qahira are now also collaborators. At the moment, only Jelaluddin and Fazalunissa can fully configure and edit the database.
Friendship Coordinator
The position of membership coordinator was discussed. This job would be to be a communications administrator and would be separate from the treasurer and financial transactions. This person would be a liaison with centre leaders. Fazalunissa suggested the position be called "Friendship Coordinator".
Nomination
Kuan Yin nominated Nirtan as president.
Seconded by Azima.
Passed unanimously.
Nirtan accepts for one year as president.
International Sufi Movement Relationship
David reviewed our affiliation with the International Sufi Movement. We have agreed we are not sending any money to the ISM for a further year. David recommended we continue a relationship with the ISM. He will remain the National Representative and report back.
SCC/SMIC
David asked if Azima could present a clear explanation of the differences between Sufi Circle Canada and the Sufi Movement in Canada for the next board meeting. Azima agrees.
Motion - Treasurer
Fazalunissa moved that Azima take over the duties of Treasurer within the next 60 days.
Seconded by Akbar.
Passed unanimously
Motion - Bookeeper
Nirtan moved that Akbar take on the function of bookkeeper starting at a time to be determined by the Treasurer.
Seconded by Fazalunissa.
Passed unanimously
Motion - Secretary
Nirtan moved that David be appointed Secretary and that he continue as National Representative for another year.
Seconded by Fazalunissa.
Passed unanimously.
Nomination - Friendship Coordinator
Akbar nominated Kuan Yin as Friendship Coordinator.
Seconded by Nirtan.
Passed unanimously.
David notes that the duties of Friendship Coordinator include approaching people regarding membership but that money would be sent to and handled by Azima.
The next membership drive will be after May 31, 2020
Official Address Change
The official Sufi Movement in Canada address will remain with Fazalunissa and Jelaluddin. Fazalunissa will forward correspondence and see if she can add Azima's address for official mailings.
Next Meeting
The next board meeting will be held Monday, October 21, 2019.
