The Sufi Movement in Canada is pleased to announce a new Sufi Retreat in the tradition of, but not identical to, the much beloved Rocky Mountain Sufi Camp which was held for 21 years at Lake O’Hara Lodge in the Canadian Rockies from 1980 to 2001.
Our goal is to revivify the esoteric practices at the heart of Inayat Khan Sufism within an atmosphere of love, harmony and beauty as well as fun and relaxation. The retreat will bring together those who have held the Sufi teachings of Inayat Khan dear to their hearts for many years with those new to these teachings. With experienced and sympathetic companions we will explore in depth together.
June 17 to 23, 2012; Sunday 4:00PM to Saturday 12:00PM

Quantum Leaps Lodge is a unique, peaceful, and scenic riverside retreat centre in the Blaeberry Valley just 15 minutes northwest of Golden, BC., between the Purcell and Rocky mountian ranges. We will have the Lodge for our exclusive use. Quantum Leaps is located on 11 acres on the Blaeberry River. The facilities consist of The Rumi Room which will house all group activities, a large dining room where all meals will be held and a variety of accommodation located in the main lodge and several smaller “cabins” which are more like small houses. The rooms are comfortable and each building has shared bathrooms, a full kitchen, and one or more decks. For the more adventurous, two large tipis and one small cabin are located beside the river and offer comfortable accommodation with shared outdoor toilets, outdoor enclosed shower, and an outdoor kitchen. Also on the property are a sauna, medicine wheel, labyrinth, and walking trails.

The programme will consist of practices and activities drawn from the deep well of Inayat Khan Sufi teachings which are at the heart of this tradition. Morning yoga will start each day. In the morning, esoteric practices such as breathing practices, concentration, singing wazifa ( a form of sung musical meditation) and others will be presented and practiced. Sufi Chant Sufi Dancing, the Sufi Healing Ceremony and Universal Worship will be open to all who wish to participate. Evening zikar will also be a feature.
Each day will offer opportunities for relaxation and adventure. Extra-curricular activities which will be available to those who choose to participate include afternoon hikes in the vicinity, river rafting, saunas, and bodywork sessions. |
Acknowledging the Canadian tradition of Sisterhood and Brotherhood, activities are presented and led by fellow participants in the retreat who have, through experience, gained knowledge and practice within the Sufi tradition, specifically through study and practice with Murshid Hidayat Inayat-Khan over many years. We are all fellow travellers on the path.
“Come, come, whoever you are” is a Rumi quote which sums up the participants invited to this retreat. Understanding of Sufi philosophy and experience with Sufi practices is not necessary. Simply bring your open heart and a comfortable cushion.
The Sufi Movement in Canada is a charitable society which offers workshops, retreats, and weekly centre meetings on a not-for-profit basis.
Organizers, session leaders and presenters volunteer their time, so no charge is made for their important contribution.
Camp fees and accommodation costs are based on our expenses in hosting the events and are kept as reasonably priced as possible.
Charges for the programme, which includes facility rental, all meals and miscellaneous expenses are included in the accomodation fee.
Accommodation charges vary depending on the type of accommodation assigned to each participant. For logistical reasons the rooms are assigned but every endeavour will be made to match the wishes of the participant in choice of room with the room assigned.
Registration will be first come, first served based on the postmark of the registration. Registration will open on October 1, 2011 for members of The Sufi Movement in Canada and on October 15, 2011 for everyone else.
